Azuela Cove Seawall Project bags 2024 Philippine Excellence in Concrete Construction Award for Infrastructure

For the fourth consecutive year, the MDC Group was recognized at the Philippine Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards organized by the American Concrete Institute – Philippines Chapter (ACI) and the Philippine Constructors Association (PCA). This year, the Azuela Cove Seawall Project won the Infrastructure Category and will be one of the country’s representatives at the 2024 ACI Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards in October.

The Azuela Cove Seawall features a 25-meter footbridge, an 82-meter reinforced retaining wall, and a 120-meter Masonry Wall. Located within the Azuela Cove estate in Davao, the footbridge provides a shorter route from The Residences at Azuela Cove to retail areas within the estate.

The retaining and masonry walls were built to prevent the lateral spread of sand along the Parkshore and retail amenities. The project was recognized for its innovative use of Design for Modular Construction (DfMC) methods through precast pile caps, abutment buttresses, retaining walls, beams, and translab to avoid flooding during high tide.

An alternative type of cement, the HOLCIM Solido Type 1P with Fly Ash, was used to comply with special design standards. For precast panels, cement with 3050 PSI at 24 hours was employed to fast track stripping and ensure project completion.
