MDC honored with prestigious Philippine Quality Award for Mastery in Quality Management

Makati Development Corporation (MDC) was honored by the National Government, through the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), with the Recognition for Mastery in Quality Management under the 26th Philippine Quality Award (PQA) Assessment Cycle. The award was presented by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., represented by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin, DTI Secretary Alfredo E. Pascual, Philippine Society for Quality Vice President Dr. Zandra N. Maningas, and PQA Board of Judges Chairman Ruy Y. Moreno, to members of the MDC Management Committee headed by President and CEO Dante M. Abando and Chief Operating Officer Robert N. Baffrey during the PQA Conferment Ceremony held at the Heroes Hall, Malacañang Palace, Manila.

“This remarkable achievement aligns with MDC’s vision to build exceptional and sustainable projects and to support Ayala Land’s mandate on quality,” MDC President and CEO Dante Abando said. “This recognition is a resounding testament to MDC’s commitment to continual improvement, innovation, people development, and nation-building,” he added.

The road toward this prestigious recognition was both challenging and rewarding. From preparing the application report to the onsite assessment, the entire MDC Community worked together to showcase its best practices related to quality excellence and discover opportunities for organizational improvement.
“As we celebrate our 50th year in the business, this award heralds the dedication and hard work of the entire MDC Community. May this milestone inspire us to continue setting new benchmarks in quality and relentlessly pursuing excellence in everything we do. MDC’s journey as a Community of World-Class Builders continues,” said Mr. Abando.

MDC Chief Operating Officer Robert N. Baffrey highlighted the importance of capitalizing on the momentum from this achievement: “PQA recognizes our past efforts and is a call to action for
MDC’s future undertakings. We will use this momentum to fuel our drive for continual improvement and to contribute to Ayala Land’s quality targets. It’s a never-ending commitment to delivering our job number one: providing high-quality services and products to delight our customers  and contribute to national development.”

PQA is the highest level of national recognition for exemplary organizational performance. It is the centerpiece program of the National Action Agenda for Productivity – the blueprint for the country’s integrated approach to improve economy-wide productivity in response to the growing challenges of globalization. The PQA program was created through Executive Order 448 in October 1997 and was institutionalized through Republic Act 9013, also known as the Philippine Quality Award Act, on February 28, 2001. MDC is the first construction company in the Philippines to receive the award.
