MDC adopts 600 trees to celebrate Philippine Eagle Week

The MDC x Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) Adopt-A-Tree Virtual Program culminated with the planting of 600 native trees at the Monkayo Pagasa Carbon Forest in Brgy. Banlag, Davao de Oro.

A total of 498 employees came together to support the initiative under MDC Active’s Mission Green program. A virtual ceremony was held yesterday, allowing employees to witness the live planting of native tree species such as Dao, Yakal, and Narra. Dr. Jayson Ibanez, Philippine Eagle Foundation’s Director for Research and Conservation, graced the ceremony to thank MDC and speak about the importance of the project:

“Together, we’re building a new home for captive Philippine Eagles at the heart of Monkayo. Your trees will sequester carbon and provide habitats for wildlife even beyond our lifetime. These trees are your lasting gifts for future generations and for our Earth.“ – Dr. Jayson Ibanez

Once restored, the 22.4-hectare forest will serve as a nature park where the public can learn about the value of carbon forests and biodiversity conservation. Likewise, the property will house a PEF-managed Philippine Eagle breeding site to strengthen species reintroduction efforts.
